The Intern Field Trip of the Summer

Ms. Gloss is an amazing writer, journalist, and scholar. I have enjoyed reading about her adventures and hope to see her progression after university.

T.A.L.E.

This summer I have been working for a small prestigious publishing company, David R. Godine Publishing. There are five staff members and four interns including myself. I will discuss the highs and lows of this internship in my next post. For now the famous intern field trip up to the New Hampshire warehouse and David’s lake house.

Throughout the two day trip we visited Puritan Press (a printing press), New Hampshire Bindery and Monadnock Paper Mill in addition to our own warehouse.

At each place we were given a tour. At Puritan, we learned about the challenges with printing ink on paper. It requires the correct balance of tones, all layered as minuscule dots in order to create the correct color. The coolest part to me was the replication of artworks for print in books. The way they could match the colors so exactly was impressive.
